Melvin E "Greasy" Greer of Memphis, 83, went home to be with the Lord on August 27, 2012.

Melvin Greer graduated from Tech High as a member of the National Honor Society in 1947.

In addition to being a Reserve Officer in the Training Corps, he played baseball for the St Louis Cardinals and various teams associated with the Memphis Park Commission, where he was voted into the Amateur Sports Hall of Fame.

He went on to become a CPA, financial planner, as well as a Real Estate Developer.

He was a loving husband, father, and "Grampie." He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah, and is survived by his three children: Russ Greer and wife, Mary, of WinterPark, FL; Mitch Greer, of Memphis, TN; and Susan Greer Stuber, of Walnut MS, as well as seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

He was a faithful member of Cherokee Baptist Church and later of Kirby Woods Baptist Church.

There will be a memorial service to celebrate his life Saturday, September 1, at Kirby Woods Baptist Church in Memphis, TN at 4 p.m.
