Janell Lyn Abbott, 30, of New Stanton, formerly of Long Branch, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2012. A daughter of John and Freda Abbott of Long Branch, she was born Oct. 20, 1981, in Monongahela Valley Hospital. After graduating from California High School in 2000, Janell attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania where she graduated magna cum laude and received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry with a minor in mathematics. After graduation, she accepted a position with Alcoa working as a research scientist. She then continued her education at DeVry University from where she received her Master's Degree in business. Because of her dedication and hard work, Janell recently accepted a promotion with Alcoa Corporate Office in Pittsburgh. Those close to Janell knew that she gave 100 percent in all she did. In her spare time, Janell enjoyed reading, shopping, going to theatrical plays and taking walks in the park, as well as participating in charitable events. She loved dogs, boating, vacationing, needlepoint, solving figgerit puzzles and listening to the rain. She was also a huge Steelers fan (especially Heath Miller), but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends; she truly enjoyed the simple things in life. In addition to her parents, left to cherish her many memories are a brother and sister-in-law, Scott R. and Marisa Abbott and son, Isaac; a grandmother, Ella Mae Abbott; a grandfather, Nelson Yates; aunts and uncles, Jim and Betty Abbott, Diane and Ed Nester, Cindy Soles and daughters Sarah and Marlena, along with Sarah's sons, Domenick and Trustin, Frank Yates, Mr. and Mrs. John R. Yates and son Bobby, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Yates and daughter Gianna, and Wayne Yates; and her loving boyfriend, Jason Luci and his family. She is preceded in death by her grandfather, John S. Abbott and grandmother, Emma Yates. Family and friends will be received on Friday, May 4, 2012, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., 1008 Furlong Avenue, Roscoe, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 5, at 11 a.m. with Elder James Abbott presiding. Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park.
