Alexander, John A.
August 7, 1922 - September 20, 2012
John Alexander, child film actor, concert pianist and engineer, died at 90. At seven, under the stage name of "Tad," he became a child actor. He starred in "Ambassador Bill" with Will Rogers. He then starred in "Rasputin and the Empress" with Lionel, John and Ethel Barrymore. By the age of 13, John taught himself how to play piano, and became a concert pianist. In World War II, John joined the Army Air Corps and became a radar technician for B-29 bombers on Guam. After the war, John became a self-taught engineer at Lockheed Radioplane, Hughes Aircraft and TRW. At TRW he rose to Senior Research Scientist of the Product Development Lab. He lead the team that developed the very first in-store credit card authorization system, called the "TRW Credit Verifier." After retirement, John devoted himself to his first love: his wife Charline Alexander. They continued to live in Rancho Palos Verdes California, acting as though each day of their 56 year marriage was their first date. He is survived by his beloved wife Charline, and his son Peter Alexander and his daughter, Stephanie Raphael. He will be missed and never forgotten. |
