The beautiful life of Mary Virginia Marchive Rabalais Melancon, "Mae Mae", will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday November 16, 2012 at 11:00 am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Bunkie, Louisiana with Father Scott Chemino officiating. Burial will follow at Pythian Cemetery in Bunkie under the direction of Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie. Visitation will be held at Melancon Funeral Home on Thursday, November 15, 2012 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm and a Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm and on Friday, November 16, 2012 from 8 am - 10:30 am.

Mary Virginia was born February 24, 1922 and passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 14, 2012. She was a native of Eola, Louisiana and a lifelong resident of Bunkie, Louisiana. She was an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, member of The Catholic Daughters Court 968 and founder of the Legion of Mary. She was also a member of the first graduating class of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School. She graduated from Bunkie High School, and Southwestern Louisiana Institute with a degree in Home Economics.

Her greatest priority was her devotion to the Lord, her family, and many friends. She found solace in praying the Rosary daily. She was an excellent bridge player, world traveler, avid reader, skillful seamstress and gardener. She enjoyed fishing with her grandchildren and passing along her many talents to them.

Mary Virginia is proceeded in death by parents Laurent Marchive and Lucile Lafleur Marchive, husbands Earl Rabalais and Dr. James L. Melancon, daughter Claire Tubre and granddaughter Natalie Rabalais.

Mary Virginia is survived by a loving family: sister, Dolores Cappel of Baton Rouge, brother L.F. Marchive (Ina Claire) of Bunkie, daughters Yvonne Tubre (Tom) of Natchitoches, Suzie Dicharry (Thomas) of Bunkie, sons Earl "Rick" Rabalais (Christine) of Bunkie, Rodney Rabalais (Paige) of Marksville, Tucker Melancon (Diana) of Norwalk, Connecticut, Danny Melancon (Margie) of Bunkie, nephew Robert Johnston (Elizabeth) of Carvallas, Montana and niece Suellen Barnett of Natchez, Mississippi. Sixteen adoring grandchildren: Robin Arabie, Ben Luke, Tanya Campbell, Keri Fidelak, Thomas Tubre, Michael Tubre, Jamie Methvin, Adam Rabalais, Ann-Marie Rabalais, Daniel Melancon, David Melancon, Andre Dicharry, Tucker Dicharry, Kevin Rabalais, Dylan Sherman, Reed Sherman and twenty-three great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

The family wishes to thank the caring staff of the Bailey House assisted living facility and her devoted care-givers Peggy Green, Phyllis Morris, Esther Campbell, Kizzy Campbell, Diana Magee and Cynthia Jackson.
