Joan Abercrombie, 72, of Carrboro, NC, formerly of Ellenwood, GA, died after a long illness at Durham Regional Hospital, Durham NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Abercrombie; parents, Clayborn Shepard and Dovie Marks Evans; twin sister, Jean Holmes; and brothers, Robert Evans, Johnny Evans, and Edward Evans. Mrs. Abercrombie was employed for 15 years at Henry Medical Center and for a short time at the Baptist Inn.
Mrs. Abercrombie is survived by her son, David and Jan Abercrombie, Brunswick GA; daughters, Wanda Gonzalez, Greensboro, NC and Faye Efird, Cary NC; grandchildren, Harmony Smith, Duncan, SC, Dustin Gonzalez, Worcester, Mass, Raymon Gonzalez, Roebuck, SC and Morgan Efird, Cary, NC; great-grandchildren, Eunice Smith and Randy Smith, Duncan SC; sisters, Mickie Hall, Lusby, MD, Sue Edwards, Louise Griffin, Rachel Taylor, Shirley Hodges, Elaine Durham, and Billie Horne all of Durham, NC; step-granddaughters, Daphine Parker, Brunswick, GA and Brandi Holland McDonough, GA; and step-great-grandchild, Madeline Parker, Brunswick, GA.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, February 29, 2008 at Fairview Memorial Gardens with Pastor Cris Magness officiating.
