Elisabeth Christine (Heller) Braun was the daughter of Jean and Anna Maria (Roth) Heller and she was born in Switzerland on August 14, 1830.

The Heller family left Europe from LeHavre, France about September 1, 1843 on board a sailing-vessel, the Narraganset. When on route to America the vessel was wrecked off the coast of Africa, and the crew was forced to remain on the Cape Verde Island while the ship was being rebuilt. After sixty-three days the Heller family (Jean Heller, age 54; Anne, age 50, Henry, age 18, Elisabeth, age 13, and Jean (John) Heller reached New Orleans on Nov. 3, 1843.

Elisabeth had ten children; five were deceased prior to 1883, one of those was William Braun who was born in 1869. The children who survived to adulthood were, Joseph L. (1860-1948); Louis Emil (1862-1905); Charles F. (1864-1928); John Jacob (1865-1913) and Anna Christine (Braun) Miller (1868-1895).
