Rich moved from San Diego with his family in 1993 after a brief stay, and graduated from Hoggard High School in Wilmington, NC in 2002. He always had an extremely positive attitude and had many passions. Among which was his love of music, cars, Coca Cola collectables and his belief in D.A.R.E., but most of all his love for all people. When he was around you couldn't help but feel good; he was intent on making everyone smile. He volunteered at the VFW Post in Boiling Spring Lakes on Friday nights when not working and was a dedicated employee. He was loved by many and will be missed by all that he touched in his life. Rich was suppose to join the Army with two of his closets friends. He decided that he was too afraid to go to War fearing that he would be killed in combat. Those words haunt me now knowing how his life ultimately ended. He took his life in the early hours of the morning in the bathroom of the Dominos Pizza where he worked after being under some stress with his job. He always was smiling and although we knew he had something on his mind we never knew what the outcome would become. In hindsight, it was so clear to us. We all miss him terribly. Each day he is in our thoughts as we go on with our routines. He enriched us all in various ways. In honor of Rich, we have a Photo collage on the wall of our Cafe. It makes us feel he is there with us. He is survived by his parents, Richard Manchen and Karen Manchen, and a sister, Charlene. He was 19.
