Marie Regina Hensing was born on December 17, 1919, the daughter of Andrew H. and Anna Marie Lindsay Hensing. The Hensing family moved from Iowa Falls to Marshalltown in the 1930s. Marie graduated from St. Mary's High School, Marshalltown, in the Class of 1938.

Marie married Robert Walter McLaughlin on September 10, 1941, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Marshalltown.

Marie was a self-employed seamstress for over 60 years, including being head costume maker at Jo Ann's School of Dance in the 1950s. She enjoyed crafts, and was a craft leader at the YWCA for many years. She also loved to square dance with Bob and their friends.

Marie was a member of the St. Cecilia Study Club at St. Mary's and one of the founding members of the Ava Marie Study Club at St. Mary's.She served as President of the St. Mary's School Parent-Teacher Association from 1952-1953.

Marie McLaughlin passed away Thursday, February 26, 2009, at Grandview Heights in Marshalltown. Visitation, Rosary, and Scripture service were held Wednesday, March 4, at the Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Marie's funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Mary's, Thursday, March 5, at 11 a.m.
