STERLING -- George F. Agena, 86, Sterling, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, at his daughter's residence in Sterling. He was born on April 21, 1912, at rural Sterling and received his early childhood education at both country and church schools. He then farmed in the Sterling and Adams vicinities. On May 25, 1941, he married Christina Rosena Waltke at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Pickrell. They lived and farmed in the Adams area all of their married life. He was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, west of Sterling. In 1994, he moved to the Countryside Apartments in Sterling. He enjoyed playing cards.

Survivors: 4 sons all of Adams; 2 daughters; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; brother, Edgar Agena and wife Jean of Adams; sister, Frieda Wilken of Sterling; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernhard and Lena (Walters) Agena; his wife, Christina on April 13, 1981; brother, John Agena; sister, Hannah Dorn; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, Immanuel Lutheran Church, west of Sterling, Pastor Mark Follett officiating. Burial: church cemetery. Family prayer service: 1 p.m. Thursday, Zink-Fox Funeral Home, Sterling. Memorial established to the family's choice with Jerry Harms and Charles Bartels in charge. Visitation: until 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary and not at the church. Zink-Fox Funeral Home, Sterling.
