Dortha Morrie Brassfield, 96, Overland Park, KS, celebrated her homecoming holding the hand of Jesus on Saturday, November 3, 2012, at the home of her daughter in Lenexa, KS. We will celebrate her life and homecoming with a visitation at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, followed by the funeral at 2:00 p.m. at Newcomer's Funeral Home, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Burial will be at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO.

Dortha was a wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and a great-great grandmother. She was the epitomy of the Proverbs woman, "Her children arise up and call her blessed," Proverbs 31. She was precious to us all.

Dortha was born on November 2, 1916, in Gowen, OK. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Brassfield, 1996, her father, Frederick Morris, 1929, her mother, Delphia Morris, 1977, her brother, Woodrow Morris, 1996, her brother, Dempsey "Doc" Morris, 2002, her sister, Bonnie Lovell, 2007, two grandsons, Tommy Brassfield and Jerry Hitch, and two great grandsons, Jeremy and Nicholas Hitch.

Dortha is survived by six children and their spouses, Gene and Earline Brassfield, ID, Albert and Kay Brassfield, ID, Ruby Johns, MO, Willard and Brenda Brassfield, ID, Geral and Bennie Lakey, KS, Faye and Kenny Johnson, KS, 15 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, and 17 great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care for their gentle, loving care and support. They treated our mother and the family with the utmost dignity and respect.
