He was born in Howell on Oct. 15, 1957, the son of Harlan E. and Ruth (Hautamaki) Hickerson. On July 29, 2000, he married Julie Yanosky at Old Settlers Park on Glen Lake.
John graduated from Glen Lake High School in 1975. He enjoyed playing golf and pool, and loved the out-of-doors. He loved spending time with his wife and family.
John worked for Honor Lumber as a contractor sales representative. He was committed to his work.
John is survived by his wife, Julie of Traverse City; daughter, Heather Hickerson, and son, John Hickerson Jr., both of Traverse City; stepson, Jared LaCharite, at home; parents, Harlan and Ruth Hickerson of Trout Creek; sisters, Carol Maki of California, and Nancy Weathers of Traverse City; brothers, Robert Hickerson of North Las Vegas, Nev., and Jim Hickerson of Traverse City; nephew, David Rogers of Traverse City; niece, Shawn Rogers of East Jordan; a great-niece, Kaitlyn; a great-nephew, Andrew; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, Dec. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery.
