--He was son of John Clarence Byrum and wife Martha Eugenia Wilson.
--Eugene was a graduate of Oakhurst High School, Charlotte.
--Member of Amity Presbyterian Church.
--Single.
--World War II Service; 2nd Lt., U.S. Army Air Forces. He entered the service in February 1943. He was a B-26 pilot. He flew 33 missions. On March 26, 1945, his plane exploded in mid air and crashed on a routine test flight in Warlencourt, France. He was buried in France with full military honors. It is not known if this grave is a cenotaph or if the remains were later moved to Sharon Memorial Park.
