Staff Sergeant Cyrus "Chief" Packer of Clinton, Oklahoma was killed in action 10 June 1944 on a bombing mission to the German-occupied airfield at Evreux-Fauville, Normandy, France. He was serving with 714th Bomb Squadron, 448th Bomb Group, 8th Army Air Forces, as tailgunner in a B-24J, serial #44-40107. The aircraft caught fire on being hit and crashed near Sassey, France a short distance from the target. He was the son of Mrs. Clara Sioux Packer also of Clinton. S/Sgt. Packer was 22 years old. B-24 tailgunner. Cheyenne Warrior.
