Services For Lt. Mathews Here Monday

The body of Second Lt. George M. Mathews, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Mathews, 311 Twelth street south, is to arrive in Wisconsin Rapids under military escort at 6 o'clock Saturday morning for reburial in Calvary cemetery. Services will be held at 9 o'clock Monday morning at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic church with the Rev. C. W. Gille officiating, and military rites are to be conducted by Buckley-Baldwin Post 2534, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Lieutenant Mathews lost his life while piloting a B-26 bomber over France on January 20, 1945. He had entered the service in January, 1941, serving for two years as supply clerk at Keesler Field, Miss. After receiving training at Moorehead, Minn, and went overseas in August of that years, serving one month in England before moving on to France. He was born at Spring Lake, Minn., on June 21, 1920, the family moving to Wisconsin Rapids when he was five years old. He attended SS. Peter and Paul Catholic school and was graduated from Lincoln High school in 1938. Besides his parents he is survived by six brothers, William, John, and Frank Jr., all of Wisconsin Rapids; Maurice and Donald, at home, and Thomas, with the 11th air force in Japan, and one sister, Mrs. Homer Isaac, Wichita Falls, Tex.
