Lt Harold Tannenbaum was a passenger as a photographer from the 8th Air Force Combat Film Unit aboard B24 Liberator 41-23983.

The plane was hit and some of the crew bailed out before it exploded mid-air. Members of the crew reported he successfully bailed out, but slipped out of his parachute harness.

Tannenbaum was LTC William Wyler's first sound man on the "Memphis Belle" film project and was tasked to take pictures from the B-24 when it exploded on its return from Brest, France.
