Son of William Wyatt Sr. & Rhoda Francis (Gold) Patton.
Brother of Billie Joan Taylor, Wendell, & Keith Patton.
1934 Graduate of Midway High School in Stella, Mo.
After graduating he served in the military for 11 years and was at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked.
In 1943 Wm. earned his wings at the Officers and Flight School.
Lt. Patton was flying combat in 1944 out of Wormingford, England.
On Jan. 15, 1945, while flying a weather mission, he was reported missing in action over LaLongueville, France.
Feb.22,2001, 56 years later a French farmer was digging a drainage ditch when he discovered a P-51 Mustang. Upon
excavation, it was discovered a W.W. II pilot wearing dog tags of Wm. W. Patton Sr.
He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, American Service Medal, and the Purple Heart.
Memorial Services for Lt. Patton were held Friday, Nov.9,2001 at Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories of Neosho, Mo. then
there was a procession to the National Cemetery in Springfield, Mo. where full military honors where conducted at the graveside services.
