Robert served as a Staff Sergeant and Right Waist Gunner on B-24 (#41-29496) "RAM IT-DAMMIT" with the 506th Bomber Squadron, 44th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Hamilton County, Ohio prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on October 31, 1942 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of boots and shoes and also as Single, without dependents.

Robert was "Killed In Action" when his B-24 was shot down by flak on a mission to Rheims, France during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.

Flying in a B-24 that took off from Shipdham assigned target Seine Bridges near Creil, France. Hit by flak in the flight deck during the bomb run. Caught fire and went into a steep dive, exploded and crashed 1949hrs at La Ferme Megret, 550 yards south of Creil 7 KIA 4 POW. He was serving as the right wing gunner.
