Edward was the pilot of a P-38 and took off from Criqueville, France on a dive-bombing operation to Clastres Airfield. His plane was last seen circling overhead when the flight attacked about 25 FW190 German fighters in the area of Laon, France. (source: Missing Air Crew Report 8035)
