He was serving as a co-pilot on a B-17F named "Wabbit Twacks III" which took off from Snetterton Heath assigned to bomb the ball bearing factories at Schweinfurt. Attacked by fighters over Vavincourt on return setting fire to the bomb bay and radio room. All the crew baled out near Revigny, 12 miles north of St Dizier, France. He was buried in the cemetery at Revigny. 1 KIA 6 POW 3 Evaded.

This raid suffered such heavy losses it earned the nickname "Black Thursday"
