SERVICE HELD SUNDAY
FOR LIEUT. JOE STONE

Body Returned From France for
Reburial; a Pilot, He Was
Killed In Action In 1944
Funeral services for Lieut. Joseph B. Stone, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Stone, were held at the Christian church at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon and were conducted by Paul Fullerton, the pastor. Burial was in the Fairview cemetery under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home. Military rites were held at graveside by the Rinker-Mason American Legion post. Pallbearers were C.J. Coonfield, Arthur Hill, Bill Eeds, Dr. Ray Waterbury, Albert Moore, jr., and Herman Lewis of Carnegie.
The body arrived from France the previous Tuesday for reburial and was escorted by Lieut. Arthur Umbleby. The deceased, was a pilot in the air corps, was killed in action over France August 25, 1944.
He was a native of Apache and a graduate of the local high school. Following his graduation, he attended Cameron College at Lawton. He enlisted in the air corps November 17, 1942. He received his training at Santa Ana, Calif., Tuscon, Ariz., Chico, Calif., and Chandlier, Ariz.He was born February 1, 1922 and was 22 years old at the time of his death. He went overseas in March of 1944.
Besides his parents, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Alva Tuttle of Casper, Wyo.
