Airmen who perished on B-26B #43-34228

Connick, William J ~ 1st Lt, California
Corbin, Reuben E, Jr ~ 1st Lt, Pilot, Missouri
Irwin, Robert D ~ 1st Lt, Minnesota
Jones, George A ~ 1st Lt, Indiana
( * Above unverified based on date )
Martin, Thomas C, Jr ~ 1st Lt, Minnesota
( * Above unverified based on date )
Rizzuto, Anthony ~ 1st Lt, Pennsylvania
Walch, Henry H ~ 1st Lt, Minnesota
Williams, William J ~ 1st Lt, Illinois

It is currently unsure why the entire crew included First Lieutenants. Possibly having just arrived with the planes in England on February 22, 1944 all the enlisted and group crew were not as of yet in England. It is understood that most of the B-26's were flown overseas with only the officer's on board except for a few exceptions. It is "assumed" that they volunteered to take this mission as a group.

* It is believed that these two First Lieutenant's actually died on the same date as the rest of the crew. Their dates of death would make you believe that they were on a mission on that date, however as noted above, none of the B-26's were in England until February 22nd.
