Harold J Corbin-

The son of Robert Travis Corbin and Anna Laura Lawton- Corbin. Harold Jay Corbin was born in 1919, in Kansas. After moving around from Kansas and Colorado (where his sister Avis was born) they settled in Whittier, Ca for a short time. Later, his parents moved him up to Amador County in a small town known as Ione, Ca.

Records indicate that Harold married Donna Marie Toole at 9 p.m., on December 24, 1942 at the Army Post Chapel, Avon Park, Florida. Sadly, in 1943 Harold Jay Corbin, only 24 years old, was killed in action during the war. His plane, the "Danny Boy" was shot down over France.

His name is featured as one of the first Amador County residents who were killed in action while serving in the military on the recently made War Veterans Memorial in Ione.

He was stationed out of Presidio of Monterey, Army Air Force (2LT # 0-666635).

Although his funeral was held literally one year from the date of his death (Sept 27, 1944)- at the Methodist Church in Ione, California- he wasn't buried until March 14, 1950 at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, California.

His mother never was able to see him be buried at Golden Gate Cemetery due to the fact she was murdered just one month prior to his burial. The worst part about the whole tragedy was that despite the fact he died in 1944, and she had to wait for 6 years wondering if they would ever bring her son's body home to be buried, the very day in which a telegram came to her home notifying her that her son's remains were being brought back to the States for burial, Anna never returned home that day from work to receive that telegram because she was murdered.
