First Lieutenant, 556th Bomber Squadron, 387th Bomber Group, Medium; U.S. Army Air Forces. Entered the service from Vermont. Missing in Action. Awarded the Air Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
Uncle Howie jumped from his plane over the English Channel to lighten the plane so that the others could make it back to land. His body has never been found. This is a cenotaph and there is another cenotaph in his memory 55877243 at Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial
