Ernest was KIA 26 aug 1944 during a mission to support US soldiers who were under heavy fire jus east of Melun, Seine et Marne.

His P47 was hit by 20mm anti aircraft gun directly on the engine helice. The plane was uncontrolable and crashed on a field in a forrest bordure.

The area is just near the D605 between Sivry-Courtry and le Chatelet-en-Brie.
