United States Air Corps First Lieutenant Munro, pilot, was killed in World War II when his Thunderbolt 316th Fighter crashed near Rochignard Hill. Alford served with the 316th Fighter Squadron nicknamed "Hell's Belles", 324th Fighter Group, 12th Air Force. Alford was only 21 years old at the time of his death.
