Commander of the 8th Air Force, 353rd Fighter Group. On August 16, 1943 while on a bomber escort mission near Elbeuf. He took his plane into a dive in pursuit of an enemy aircraft and he was never seen again. He was listed as Missing in Action and officially declared dead one year later on August 17, 1944.
