Capt. Melvin H. Graper was in the 8th AAF during WWII and was a lead pilot on a B-24 Liberator. He received the air medal with oak leaf clusters and was recommended for the distinguished flying cross. The plane he was on was shot down over France and Capt. Graper was taken prisoner. He was taken to a German Hospital in Reims, France where he died sixteen days later from his wounds. He was buried in Reims, France and later moved to Arlington Cemetery in Virginia.
