Shep/ Valentine Cemetery
Also known as Boomtown Cemetery
Jackson County, Wisconsin, USA
T21 - R4W Section 28
This village no longer exists and many stones were vandalized and lost over the years. When it was discovered in 1991 by the Footprints Genealogy Group, we had the township install a fence around the remaining stones.
Andrew Shepard and John Valentine ran a saw mill here in partnership with John Valentine and they remained partners for 25 years or more. The cemetery was destroyed when the new Spring Creek Road was built. Residents of the area at that time say that when the highway crew was excavating for the road, old rough boxes and caskets were seen sticking out of the burial hill and as groumd eroded, human bones were found in the sand. As far as we could ascertain through research, was that the stone for Mary was that of the oldest daughter of Andrew and Arminda Shepard who died in 1845. Two of their other daughters, Sisanna died in 1848 and Arminda died in 1854. Another burial would have been for the win son of John and Chloe Valentine B 22 Feb 1853 D 9 May 1853 The remaining stones, which were difficult to read are as follows:
#1 VALENTINE Chloe Ann Gaffin, wife of John D. 24 Jan 1854 AE 34 yr 7 Mo 14 Dy
#2 RACE Cordelia wife of William H. D 18 Oct 1866
