Mr. Piatt retired in 1975 after working as a carpenter for 30 years. He was the former pastor of House of Prayer for All People in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and did mission work in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. He had been a member of First Church of the Nazarene in North Vernon for 35 years, and was also a member of the Carpenters Union. He was a graduate of West Liberty High School in Ohio.
He enjoyed lapidary and silver smithing, and had made jewelry for about 30 years. He also enjoyed fishing and antiques, was a landscape artist and an avid reader.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 16, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Terry officiating. Calling will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Hospice of Jennings County. Born July 7, 1922, in West Liberty, Ohio, Mr. Piatt was the son of jacob I. and Mina Shanley Piatt.
Survivors include a son, Donn Piatt of Veral Beach, Florida; daughters, Rita L. Piatt of Madison, Sharynn E. Patterson of North Vernon, and Billie Jean Grypon of Sedro-Woolley, Washington; a brother, Ben S. Piatt of Masa, Ohio; a sister, Jane Freese of Springfield, Ohio; grandchildren, Lisa Lawson of Franklin, Ronnie W. Lawson of Austin, Texas, Phyllis D. Acton of Elgin, Florida, Daryn Patterson of North Vernon, Michelle Whiteaker of Rocky River, Ohio, and Shawn Piatt of North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Sierrha Ross of Seymour, Cheyenne Webber of Franklin, Karrah Patterson, Kavan Patterson, and Karman Patterson, all of North Vernon, Olivia Whiteaker of Rocky River, Ohio, Courtney Acton and Travis Acton, both of Elgin, Florida, and Quinten Lawson and Jonathon Lawson, both of Austin, Texas; and great-great-grandchildren, Destiny Ross and Vanessa Ross, both of Seymour.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jacob Piatt; and a sister, Mildred Ried.
